The Royal Family is defined as immediate family members of the Sovereign or from the demised Ruler, chosen and appointed by the Sovereign. Accordingly, on 29 October 2010, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, with the authority and privilege vested in him under Article 7(2)(e) of the Second Part of the Constitution, appointed and included his immediate family members, and that of his late father Sultan Iskandar and his grandfather Sultan Ismail, and determined their rank and order of precedence.

Members of the Royal Family may fly their standards, approved by the Sovereign, at their official residences and pennants on their official motorcars when attending official events. They are also permitted to print images of their flags on letterheads and documents.
Only the Sovereign and the Heir Apparent may have the image of the crown on their cyphers. The Permaisuri (Queen) uses her diadem (crown symbol) on her cypher.
